*ahem*
I have a whole list of blinkies that I want to make, a blanket in the washer, and at least two more loads that need to go in. (I did finish my red load, my jeans load, and my quilt last night.)
Salli and I need to go see a movie tonight, out of spite for our father who is going to a concert instead of fulfilling his duty. What should we see? (Kat, if you are reading this - ah, nevermind, I know you don't have internet access. :P)
Scary site of the day.
I made a really pretty doll last night, but I shall post her on her own at a later date so that I can get comments. ;)

So, it's Thanksgiving Day...
...and I have given up all pretense of helping in the kitchen this year. (I'm not much use, anyway.)
So, we all went out last night and got coffee (but I could not get coffee, because it was late, so I had to get hot chocolate :( and Kat drove to the reservoir, which is kinda scary, and we sat and talked in the dark. ("We" is the old "we", Sarah-Salli-Kat-Ashley.) I think we came to the conclusion that all of our lives SUCK and none of our issues are any worse than anyone else's, except that maybe my issues are a tiny bit worse (repeat that for any one of us behind the "my" ;). We also spent some time agreeing with each other about the third Matrix movie and comparing notes on apartment prices.
And this morning, I had to get up at 9:30, because I had a headache. :(
And this is little Hannah from Pirate Caves of DOOM. (They changed the name to "Hannah and the Pirate Caves", but they aren't fooling anyone.) Though it should be noted that I still don't want an Usul and I don't like it when they anthropomorphize neopets (they are pets, we are the owners). But Hannah is pretty cute, no?
A couple of my dad's movie-watching buddies (okay, they're colleagues, but I know them as the movie crew because that is how I run into them 99% of the time) are coming over for dinner in an hour or something. (I wish it were sooner. I am hungry.) I can't help but hope there will be a movie afterwards. ;) (Though, of course, there is nothing on that anyone wants to see, which is why we went to see The Human Stain, of all things, on Sunday.)
They have a Lord of the Rings Trivial Pursuit, now, though of course it is movie-based and therefore there is a certain fundamental wrongness to it. Still, I would be prepared to overlook that, except for the simple fact that if I got it, no one would ever play it with me. ::sigh:: Life is so unfair.

Hey, I haven't done a "vote, please" post in a long time...
...so I guess I can get away with this one. ;) There's a wings contest that I entered Reyl in. There's one here that I entered purely for kicks—it's been voting for a while, I just forgot to post it.
Also, my sprite contest is voting, and I'm going to need all the help I can get with that one. (I just look at them and my eyes sort of glaze over.)
Mooooo!

This entire post is a spoiler.
HUORNS!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, for that I'll forgive them for the Ents (I take what I can get). But not for Faramir.
They end up making the Faramir thing better - they still did it in the first place, though (and the fact that it requires salvaging is just wrong, wrong, wrong). They also really screw up the whole Denethor-Boromir-Faramir thing, so they don't get off that easily.
The ending of this version is generally better. Some of the earlier material should have been cut, but I propose this compromise: cut the entire Liv Tyler storyline. Replace it with this ending. Much more satisfactory all around.

To avoid making sarcastic comments...
...I am going to randomly list things that I need to pack/take care of tomorrow morning before they kick us out at noon.
(Look! It's Haldir's evil twin! *ahem*)
Maybe there will be Huorns? That would be cool. At the end of the battle, you know? I would really love that. So it won't happen. Eeeeeee! They mentioned them! But they still need to show up after the battle. :P
But I wasn't going to make sarcastic comments.
Hmmmm...Things I Need to Pack: Laptop, guitar, music, lab notes, E&M book, "the scary book", story/language notes, all of my laundry, quilt and blankets with coffee spilled over them (?), some Vanilla Coke (they never have any not-diet Coke when I get home), CDs for ride home, DVD (gee), books to be returned, toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap...what the heck, why not the whole basket?), lotion collection, brush and comb, PDA + power cord, camera + battery recharger, Advil and Tylenol, boots, something to wear on Sunday (shoes?), knitting supplies, art supplies (hehe), alarm clock. My tension meds - mustn't forget the meds. Very important. Do dishes. Remove leftovers, milk products from fridge. Empty trash.
At least I got another good parking space.

Erkenbrand! They still have Erkenbrand!
Look, it's Erkenbrand!
Not really. Darn. (But it would be so cool!)

Aragorn admitted his age!
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I've been wanting him to say that for two years. (Even though of course it is silly because Aragorn would never say that.)

Here comes the music that I like.
The Ent draught part was cool, but the carnivorous tree was a bit of overkill and really rather silly. But Treebeard SANG!
Even though I'm not convinced that Peter Jackson grasps the full significance and power of song in Tolkien's work, I still now and appreciate that Eowyn gets to sing. (I will forgive him one thing for that. Uhmm...how about, that we get to see Theodred in the first place? Okay, done.)

More Gandalf!
Darn it, I really should have been paying attention.

I miss my mouse.
Maybe I'll haul it over so I can actually use it somewhat...much better, but I still have to move significantly to get at it. :P
(I don't care how much they want to add involving orcs. I just don't care. "Orcses" is about as intelligent a comment as I care to make concerning orcs of any variety.) I WANT ANDURIL!!!!
I think a restroom break is in order. (You did not need to know that, I'm sure.)
Sarah - 7:54 PM - 0 comment(s)
Orcses.
For some reason, I have been forming funny plurals over the past few days. (I recently decided that the plural of "sprite" should be "spriteses" because they inspire cutesy babbling.)
Aragorn is cool, too. They do a really good job of making him really cool - I just have trouble with some of the little extra adventures they feel compelled to add. This part of the movie is dead on - that's what makes the later manipulations so specially painful. ("Not idly do the leaves of Lorien fall.")
I never particularly enjoyed reading about Saruman, either. (You know what? Tolkien doesn't preach. He occasionally drops pearls of wisdom, but usually they have to do with hobbits or Nazgul or something, so it's not forced on you. Peter Jackson preaches.) ("Ai" is "eye' not "ay". Grrrr.)
This is new. (What the heck is Eomer supposed to be doing? None of this actually happens in the books, so it's hard to tell if the incidents are realistic...oh, right. Terribly uninteresting.)
Sarah - 7:49 PM - 0 comment(s)
The rope!
Here it comes...kinda reminiscent of claymation, though. Well, not really - but not real.
There shall now be spoiler tags. This is not a spoiler.
What is really jarring is when you can just tell that they have added something - it probably flows perfectly well, but you are so used to the original version that it throws you off. (Mmm...cranberry lemonade...maybe it will relax me? My mom apparently finds wine to have a relaxing effect, but I don't think this stuff contains enough alcohol to have any effect at all)
Gollum is so cool.
This thing is apparently something like 220 minutes long. I appreciate lots and lots and lots and lots of Tolkien...but do you really think we're going to get through that much tonight?
I want Eowyn! (You have to excuse me for not getting the accents right. It's really hard to find the right keys in the dark and at a funny angle. Do you know how hard it is to hold your laptop so that you can see someone else's laptop at the same time?)
Sarah - 7:38 PM - 0 comment(s)
We are watching the extended edition DVD.
There shall be running commentary. (You have been warned.)
First, you really need to be able to picture this. My head hurts, I feel kind of like I might throw up half the time, and I'm propped up against Salli's mini fridge with about three pillows. We are watching the movie on my roommates laptop, which she let us borrow. Salli has her laptop and is sitting on the inflatable chair. (Gandalf is really cool!)
We also have our marginally alcoholic cranberry lemonades, and Salli's power cord is running across my lap. I snitched Heather's corn-filled hot pack, which I microwaved, so now it's wrapped around my neck and smelling vaguely of corn.
It's really quite ridiculous. You should really see us.
Nothing changed in opening sequence, as far as I can tell.

I could be working on my circuit.
In fact, I really should be, if I intend to get anything done before break (and I really should, considering how little I have accomplished so far this week).
Instead, I have been making lots and lots and lots of sprites (about a dozen—actually, an even dozen right now, but I don't have to be at class yet, so who knows?). This cute little Shay sprite with swirly skirt is one of my favorites.
I made this entire little Vakian lineup last night. Look! A little bitty Niall! (I swear this storyline actually has male characters. Actually, I think there they may be in the majority.) I love little Aeva—that is just a really, really, really good pose.

I need comments.
Lots and lots and lots of comments. You hear that, Mir? You made me get HaloScan - you owe me comments! Make the sad faces go away!
Today has been a really lovely day, and I actually went out into it, for a wonder. (I did not, however, get any work whatsoever done on my independent study project, and I never did speak with my professor.)
After talking with the pastor for a lot less time than it seemed (he gave me a reading assignment, which I am sure to post all about at some later date), I stopped for gas (sitting on empty, gah!), then wandered around "downtown" a bit. (It sort of reminded me of Montréal.) There are lots of cute little shops there, including the yarn shop where I buy all my knitting supplies (yay!) and a little bookstore, which is pretty new. I finally checked out the bookstore - it's little, but pretty good. :) (Certainly they have a much better science fiction/fantasy selection than the much-vaunted College bookstore, and also their young adult/childen's books are in alphabetical order. At the College bookstore, there's a great little section, but it is in no order at all, which always gives me fits.)
I did, of course, stop by the College bookstore on the way back in (to buy goldfish), and then I actually found a parking space behind our dorm. Wow! (That's three times in a row! Unprecedented!)
It is warm enough outside that I stopped wearing my jacket. It's kind of a nice change...but I hope this doesn't presage a pathetic mild winter.

Grrrr...
I just found out that my transcript (at least the online version) lists my credits from last semester as coming from SUNY Plattsburgh instead of McGill. I didn't go to SUNY Plattsburgh (which no one has ever heard of) - I went to McGill (a prestigious university). I shall have to speak to the registrar about that. :P
Both of the guys who have been coming to help session to work on their homework came and went, and now I am all alone. ::sigh::
The midterm of DOOM and DESPAIR is behind me (behind me, I say!), and I don't feel like thinking.
Tomorrow is a big day. Pray for me?

I haven't done a character post in quite a while.
So here is Penelope Cainaren, my first Vakian doll in a very long time.
Penelope (apparently some of the scientists at Cainar were fans of Greek mythology) is the combat specialist of the team (and it's about time I got around to adding at least one of the Cainar bunch). She has just enough precognitive and telekinetic abilities to be really useful in a fight. You do not want to mess with this chick.
Now that I've got Cainar represented, I've made dolls from all three of the major Centers represented in the story so far (of course, the others are mostly so bad I am tempted to remove them from the site).
Alas, but Penelope is not one of the more important characters, so I don't have a whole lot to say about her (yet). She is most interesting in comparison to her closest Tralloren counterpart. (No one ever quite matches the creative genius of the Trallor group, but the folks at Cainar are (okay, were) the nearest modern equivalent, so I sometimes find myself setting up characters from the two Centers in pairs.)

If Salli joins the Peace Corps...
...then I get the car. (Quick, everyone! Donate to the "Send Salli to the Peace Corps Fund"!)
Reason #23 why I still play Neopets: Sutek's Tomb.
This is really weird, I know, but I actually look forward to my period starting, because that means no more PMS. I have serious issues with PMS because I basically get all of the symptoms of clinical depression for a day or two every month. (Thursday was really particularly miserable.) That said, Advil is my friend.
I have been investigating methods for cutting down on the number of potential places to go after I graduate from college. (Cryptic comment of the day.)
We plan to go see the 9:45 showing of the new Russell Crowe movie with the improbably long title. Not that I am that much of a Russell Crowe fan (and we all know who Salli would rather watch, right?), though that does remind me that I ought to see L.A. Confidential again. But seriously, a fun movie-going game for you: Come up with alternate titles that would be better and more concise. I can think of at least six, just off the top of my head.
I bought vaguely alcoholic cranberry lemonade (because we figured I ought to buy something alcoholic before I turn 22). I would feel daring, except I've been legal for nearly ten months. I can still count the number of times I've had something with alcohol in it (other than communion) on (barely) two hands. (Fun fact: I could do it on one hand if I had six fingers!)

The power went out.
Salli was right about that. Of course, it's not a difficult thing to guess.
The power came back on immediately. My internet connection did not. My computer works plugged into Heather's port, though, so clearly it is the port in my room.
Heather is not optimistic about my chances of getting them to fix it tomorrow. Oh, joy. And, of course, I will also have to convince them that it really is their fault and they really need to come look at it. ASAP. I have a paper to get online, a lab report due...both of which require network resources on my laptop.
Prepare for long strings of posts from me living in the physics building (but I can't stand to do that on the weekend)!

I am reminded somewhat of the Godfather trilogy.
Except that the Matrix movies don't quite reach the same heights (or depths - thank God for small miracles).
Also, the Godfather movies don't have any purple blindfolds.

I have a schedule!
Well, okay, not really, but I have a scheduling form and it's all filled out. Just needs my advisor's signature (shouldn't be a problem as I will be in the physics building all afternoon :P).
So, I have basically everything I need to get the scientific computing concentration I've been after, assuming, of course, that I pass the 400-level "capstone" course next semester. Except for one tiny little detail: I need 1.00 units of intermediate computer science-y courses. I'll have a half unit from my independent study (mwahahaha!), but the registrar and OCS departments, in their infinite wisdom, have decided to make my McGill courses only work 0.40 units, which leaves me a tenth of a unit short. Hello?!? I don't think they understand semester hours. :P

I made this last night.Awww...Mir's sprite bases are so little and cute and little and...
All the talk about South Carolina has reminded me that I actually have family in that general vicinity, and all of the family trips down south in the past few years have happened when I was a) away at camp or b) away at school or c) away at camp (gee). It's not fair. :P
And I was going to take a nap, but my lab partner said he wanted to take data this afternoon, only he hasn't gotten back to me and I'm tired of sitting at the conputer checking my email and I need a nap. (Uhmm...Rayne...if I don't show up at the sim tonight, assume I'm babysitting the X-ray machine, k?)
