I hate email.

So, apparently Yahoo had deactivated my email account for inactivity. You'd think they would have somehow informed me of this, considering that I am logged in to My Yahoo every single day.

If you sent me email to my Yahoo account, I no longer have it. It's all gone. This is beyond "a little frustrating". If you wanted a reply...obviously you will need to email me again. Sorry.

Gmail is so much better.

Seasonal television ranting

Because there is very little on television at the moment (due to a certain seasonal pest), I have decided to compile the following list.

Shows featuring Angel escapees in regular or important guest starring roles in the last season, in order of increasing bizarreness:
(Does this freak anyone else out?)

In other news, House is actually new this week. So I don't know why I'm writing this instead of paying attention. I like this show. Probably because I started watching over the summer during CPE, and sometimes it's fun to watch a show about people who get to say all the things I (never really) wanted to say but couldn't have.

So, on a completely unrelated topic, for my youth ministry class, I have to come up with three resources to share with the class. They can be anything: books, movies, websites, people, whatever. One of mine is going to be a Terry Pratchett book. Mwahaha!

I am wearing my lucky socks.

They are lucky because I decided they were going to be. No matter how out of control my life is, I can at least control whether or not my socks are lucky. Because they are my socks.

No matter what I think, I will remind myself that I know how to knit a pair of socks. I can turn the heel and pick up stitches and even sew up the toe with kitchener stitch. This is a sign that I am smart and clever and good at solving problems. No one can take this away from me—especially not if they don't even know what kitchener stitch is.

No matter how I feel, I will remind myself that someone, somewhere, loved me enough to teach me how to knit. And someone, somewhere, loved me enough to knit me a pair of socks—and that person was me.

Furthermore, I managed to persevere through the process of knitting two whole socks. This shows that I am brave and probably a little crazy, but definitely able to stick to it. Even if it takes a while, I can get there eventually. Dropped stitches may slow me down, but I am smarter than they are and in the end there will be socks. Sometimes there will even be PMS, but in the end I will keep knitting.

More importantly, God knit me together just like I knit these socks (only better). He loved me enough to make me, not just a pair of socks for me. And he makes no mistakes—the things that look like mistakes are actually design elements. If I can believe that my knitting errors are in fact not problems but rather opportunities for design, then I can certainly believe this about God, who is much better at this than I am, and who really did "do that on purpose".

I usually fail to fully appreciate this, just like non-knitters totally fail to appreciate what went into my socks. This is okay. I love them anyway—and God loves me anyway.

When I am wearing my lucky socks, nothing truly and ultimately bad can happen. (It might be temporarily bad, but not ultimately bad.) I cannot entirely fail in my lucky socks, because at least my feet are warm and cozy and loved, and so at least that much is guaranteed to have gone right.

And even when I am not actually wearing my lucky socks, they are still there, and I still love them. Because they are my lucky socks. Because I said so. And because sometimes love is more important than logic.

CSI silliness

So, I'm watching recorded episodes of CSI. And they claim that somebody has a gmail address, so I think, "cool, someone who writes these things is up on what's actually going on on the internet".

And then, in a later scene, they have their tech guy claiming that, "the ISP provider sent over the subscriber information" for the same gmail address. Assuming that this is shorthand for either "Google checked their server logs and found out the IP of the person who was using that account and then we asked the ISP" or "we found the website that the email address goes with and got that ISP", we are still left with the rather unfortunate impression that the technical expert involved does not know what "ISP" stands for.

Your average non-technical person might say "ISP provider", but an expert in the field should really know better. Or else they could have asked, say, your average 15-year-old. I suppose it's possible that there is a really obscure technical explanation, but, since when has CSI been that subtle?

The moral: If you have to try to be trendy, don't.

Jet lag is not your friend.

You expect to be tired and hungry at odd times. This is what you get when you try to convince your body that day is night, and then two weeks later try to switch back. I don't particularly object to the being tired part, although I would prefer it to stop already, because there are things I want to do.

I feel I must, however, object very strongly to the nausea. Is this part really necessary?

Thursday was actually pretty good. They say it's the second day that's the worst, and, true to form, on Friday it hit me like a ton of bricks. Yesterday I was expecting it, so I managed to get some errands done in the morning before it got too bad. I even made it out in the afternoon (although I still felt like crap) to go to the mall to stop by GNC and get more PMS meds. Which they didn't have. :P But, hey, I got a knitting-pattern-a-day calendar, some really cheap aromatherapy stuff from Bath and Body Works, and a really cute pair of boots. (They're red.)

Today I really, really, really want to go see Pride and Prejudice, which is showing at exactly one theater in town. I've been trying to go all week, but it helps if I'm awake and coherent enough to drive, you know? We shall see.
